JOHNSON HAYNES, M.D.
Director USA Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center University of South Alabama Dr. Johnson Haynes, Jr., Director of the University of South Alabama Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, Mobile Alabama is one of the nation’s leading physicians. While serving as Director of the Sickle Cell Center, Dr. Haynes also serves as Director of Adult Clinical Programs, Professor of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and Associate Professor of Physiology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Dr. Haynes received his B.S. degree in Biology from Tuskegee University. He then attended the University of South Alabama Medical School where he earned his medical degree and completed a residency in internal medicine. In 1986, he was a National Research Service Award Fellow in Pulmonary Vascular studies at the University of Colorado Health Science Center. ELISE LABBE-COLDSMITH, Ph.D
Professor Department of Psychology University of South Alabama Dr. Elise Labbe-Coldsmith serves as Professor of Psychology at the University of South Alabama. Prior to joining the faculty at USA in 1986, Dr. Labbe-Coldsmith was a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, Department of Neurological Surgery, and Assistant Professor at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Virginia. Dr. Labbe-Coldsmith earned her B.S. degree in Psychology from Loyola University, and her Masters of Arts and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Louisiana State University, New Orleans, LA. She has co-authored numerous articles on subjects ranging from: Treatment of childhood migraine using autogenic feedback training; Treatment of childhood migraine with skin-temperature biofeedback, autogenic training and home practice: A component analysis; Psychological factors and prediction of headaches in college adults; and Pathophysiology, current assessment and treatment methods. MS. ROSIE PETERSON, B.S., PAHM
Director of Psycho-Social Research USA Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center University of South Alabama Ms. Peterson has served as Director of the Psycho-Social Research Division for the University of South Alabama, Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center since 1999. Ms. Petersen earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Springhill College, Mobile, Alabama and received her Certification as a Managed Care Professional Healthcare Manager through the Academy for Healthcare Management in 1999. . Prior to joining the USA Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center, Ms. Peterson worked with the PrimeHealth Companies of Mobile Alabama as Program Development Manager, and served as Director of the Bay Health Plan Resource Center and Director of Services for Special Needs Populations. From 1982-1996, she served as Chief Executive Officer of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Mobile Chapter, Inc. Mobile, Alabama from 1982-1996. Among her many honors, Ms. Peterson has received: The Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award (First Congressional Voters League), 1985; The Tri County Sickle Cell Anemia Association, Community Services Award, 1984; Certificate of Appreciation for Sickle Cell Disease, Community Service Award, 1985; Listed in the Marquis 1989-90 Edition of Who’s Who of America Women; Special Recognition and Participation Award from the National Association for Sickle Cell Disease, 1987 and the Presented with the University of South Alabama Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center’s Service Award, 1990. MS. KATHY HALL, MPH
Deputy Commissioner for Program Administration Alabama Medicaid Agency Since January 2001, Ms. Hall has served as Deputy Commissioner for Program Administration of the Alabama Medicaid Agency. In this capacity she is responsible for oversight of development, implementation, and ongoing operation of Medicaid program policies. She advises the Commissioner on matters pertaining to program policy and coverage so that services available to beneficiaries are provided appropriately and efficiently in keeping with Agency goals while meeting the requirements of federal and state regulations. Prior to her current position Ms. Hall served as director for the Medical Services Division and the Program Integrity Division. She also served as the Medicaid Agency’s Fiscal Agent Liaison Officer/MMIS Coordinator. While serving in that capacity Ms. Hall was responsible for procurement and oversight of all aspects of the contract with an outside computer company to perform the enrollment and claims processing functions for the Alabama Medicaid Agency. In that position, she gained an extensive knowledge of the Medicaid Management Information System and the overall Medicaid program. Over the course of twelve years Ms. Hall was responsible for the implementation of projects as conversion to standardized coding (HCPCS) and conversion from monthly paper Medicaid cards to permanent plastic cards and an on-line eligibility verification system. Ms. Hall earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology from Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama and her Masters in Public Administration, at Auburn University, Montgomery, Alabama. MS. KIMBERLY B. DAVIS-ALLEN, B.A.
Director, Medical Services Division Alabama Medicaid Agency Ms. Davis-Allen is Director of the Medical Services Division for the Alabama Medicaid Agency. She is currently responsible for development, implementation, operation and oversight of all managed care programs and acute care programs in the Medicaid Agency. She has worked in all major program areas of the state and was primarily responsible for the development and implementation of the Patient 1ST Program and its statewide expansion. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Auburn University, Montgomery, Alabama Bachelor’s Degree and received her certification as Managed Care Professional Healthcare Manager through the Academy for Healthcare Management. Betty S. Pace, M.D.
Associate Professor University of South Alabama Dr. Betty S. Pace serves as Associate Professor, Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics/Hematology in the Oncology Division, at the University of South Alabama. In 1990, Dr. Pace received a Fellowship in Medical Genetics from the University of Colorado, Health Sciences Center and completed her residency at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in 1984. From 1984-86, she served as Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics for the Medical College of Wisconsin and Associate Director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1981, Dr. Pace received several awards including the Kaiser Foundation Merit Award, the Mosby Mirror Award. She also received recognition from the American Medical Women’s Association and Alpha Omega Alpha. She has co-authored articles and research papers in over twenty-four publications including the Journal of Biological Chemistry; the Cellular & Molecular Biology Letters; American Journal of Hematology and many others. Felicia Wilson, M.D.
Associate Professor of Pediatrics University of South Alabama College of Medicine Dr. Felicia Wilson is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Prior to this appointment, she served as Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics at USA College of Medicine. Currently she serves as an Associate Scientist, with the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at USA and a Graduate Faculty Member for the Cancer Biology Program. She received her medical degree from Medical University of South Carolina in 1985 and completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Greenville Hospital System in South Carolina. In 1995, Dr. Wilson received the Children’s Rehabilitation Service Distinguished Service Award and in 1992-93, was awarded the “Best New Attending” in the Department of Pediatrics Award from the University of South Alabama. Other awards and honors include the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship Award for two consecutive years.
