New Health Policies and Health Reform: What Has Been Achieved and What Remains

Session included presentations on the impact of health care reform on future public-private partnerships around health equity as well as an in-depth overview of the health equity provisions currently in the health care reform bill and those that remain unaddressed. Also includes special presentations on the important role that the African-American health providers can and should play in the months and years following health care reform.



Rodney Gillespie **

Mr. Gillespie provided brief opening remarks about the importance of health care reform and the opportunities for future public-private partnerships to not only fill health care gaps, but to achieve health equity.

Daniel Dawes **
Premier Healthcare Alliance
Mr. Dawes provided an overview of the health care reform bill and - honing in on health equity measures - will highlight what has and has not been included, and the next steps that health equity advocates should consider as we move forward.

Dr. Willarda Edwards
President, National Medical Association
Dr. Edwards discussed the pivotal role that African-American health care providers across the health care continuum will play in the months and years following the passage of health care reform to ensure that system implementation serves the communities and providers who have historically experienced systemic inequality.



Harriette Fox, CEO **
National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health
Ms. Fox discussed findings from a recent focus group conducted with over 200 low-income adolescents in four cities. During her presentation, Ms. Fox explored the ideas that adolescents have about how to structure a health care delivery system to help them change their behaviors and improve their health, as well as their recommendations about making health care services more accessible and inviting to adolescents.



William S. Robinson
National African American Tobacco Prevention Network
Mr. Robinson will provide an update the impact of tobacco control on tobacco prevention in the African-American community. Mr. Robinson also will highlight the ongoing efforts to assess the impact on menthol on nicotine addiction and absorption.
